Does federal OT use daily hours?
No. Under the FLSA, overtime is generally based on hours over 40 in a workweek at 1.5× for non-exempt employees. California (and some other states) also use daily OT rules.
What does the California mode change?
California mode applies 1.5× after 8 hours in a day, 2.0× after 12 hours, and a 7th consecutive day rule. Federal mode focuses on weekly hours over 40.
